CELSIR launches Ruby Home for ex-inmates, unveils reintegration strategy

The Centre for Legal Support and Inmates Rehabilitation (CELSIR) las Thursday launched the CELSIR Ruby Home for post-incarcerated women in Lagos state to help them reintegrate into the society.

Executive Director of CELSIR, Joke Aladesanmi, who unveiled the project at a colourful ceremony in Maryland, said the home was made possible by the support of an international NGO, A New Way of Life.

She said the organisation has also enrolled more than 150 beneficiaries for various examinations where one of them scored 312 in the last Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

According to her, the home will also help in reuniting the ex-inmates with their families and the society, and also re-orientate them, making them a better person.

Mrs. Aladesanmi said she works closely with the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) in identifying the inmates who are dedicated while at the correctional centre.

Aladesanmi said, “We stand before you today on a momentous occasion, the official launch of the Centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation’s Ruby House. This establishment embodies hope, resilience, and transformation. We extend our warmest welcome to each one of you, as we come together to celebrate the inauguration of this extraordinary venture.

“What appeared as an improbable endeavour is now a tangible reality. With the support of A New Way of Life. We gather here today to witness the launch of the first halfway home for formerly incarcerated women, a place where women who are just coming out of the correctional centres can stay and get empowered.”

In his own address, a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Prof. Babafemi Odunsi, urged society to join CELSIR to “help the women from suffering in freedom after suffering in prison.”
