Borno elects 8,424 ward executives in 27 LGAs

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Borno State chapter has thumbed up for itself for successfully conducting a peaceful 312 ward congresses that brought in 8,424 wards party executives.
The party was particularly delighted that the exercise took place without insecurity issues that has been bedevilling the state for some years now. The APC state Organising Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Awwal Hamza, who said the ward congresses were held across the 27 LGAs, described the exercise as a new development in the political history of the state.
It will be recalled that Governor Kashim Shettima has on Friday last week during the APC stakeholders meeting warned members of the party against violence threatening to deal decisively with anybody found wanting, urging them to respect the guiding principles of the APC. Shettima further directed 27 LGAs APC party executives and the 27 LGAs Caretaker Committee Chairmen to immediately relocate to their respective local government areas to ensure proper conduct of the congress.
However, only delegates from Marte LGA a border town sharing international border with Chad were permitted to hold their ward congress in Monguno town in Monguno LGA because its LGA is yet to be liberated from the Boko Haram insurgents.
“We were able to conduct the ward congress and at the end of the day we have had a team of 27 ward executives elected from each of the 312 wards”. “The party used to have 26 elected officials at the ward level which would have brought the total figure to 8,112 in the entire 312 wards of Borno State”, stressing recent amendment of its constitution enables addition of one extra seat in each of the wards of Borno state. “So we now have 27 executives in each ward which brought the total APC ward executives to 8, 424,” Awwal said and praised the state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, for ensuring a smooth exercise.
