Block revenue leakages, fraud, Balarabe tells El-Rufai

Former governor of old Kaduna state, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa, has called on the state government to tighten channels through which government is deprived of huge economic fortunes and fraudulent acts that could make the state lose incomes to fraudsters.
The elder statesman said although during the time of the PRP government in the old Kaduna state, the government’s priority at that time was to block all areas of revenue fraud and make sure that anyone caught was not allowed to go without being prosecuted.

Speaking to newsmen in his residence in Kaduna, the former governor, who is a chartered accountant urged the administration of Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai to focus its attention on how to generate revenue for the state through a well coordinated revenue board, vehicle inspection (VIO), the market and other government agencies which have remained a drain pipe for some government functionary.

According to him, the government should strengthening those areas effectively and allow those trained for the job to do it and avoid interference, a situation where all the duty of revenue generation, for example on vehicle document and license are given out to consultancy was an avenue to siphon public funds.
He urged the government to pay particular attention to revenue generation, make correction where necessary and effective use of revenue generated to have value for money and fulfilment on the part of the electorates.

“I want to call on governor El-Rufai to strengthen all areas of revenue generation in the state rather than rely on Federal government for assistance always”.
“On the verification exercise on civil servants in the state, Alhaji Balarabe commended the government for the exercise, urging them to make sure that the exercise works in order to save the state from fraudulent practices allegedly going on within the system.
“The verification is very necessary and must be make to work,” he concluded.
