Benue: Alia commissions 100 buses to ease transportation 


Governor of Benue state, Hycinth Alia, Thursday handed over to Benue Links Nigeria Limited, 100 buses purchased as part of palliative to ease transportation and the challenges brought by subsidy removal on people of the state.


While speaking during handing over at the premises of the state transport company, the governor said transportation has become a necessity in contemporary life as it enhances economic growth.


He noted that the notion informed the choice of the project as a palliative strategy to cushion the harsh effects of fuel subsidy removal on Benue people.


He appealed to the management of Benue Links to ensure that all drivers handling the vehicles are qualified professionals and dedicated.


“The governor also called for a very strict monitoring of the activities of the drivers with a view to checking arbitrary hike in fares, over-loading and possible disregard for traffic rules and regulations.


“We are providing these buses at the cusp of Yuletide when massive movement of passengers and goods is expected. I therefore enjoin you to make the season truly memorable through your services.

“I wish to use this occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for introducing the bouquet of palliatives from which states can choose to address the peculiar needs of their people. We are also eagerly awaiting the federal government’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered buses to boost our efforts,” he added.
