APC raises alarm over rising Edo debt profile

The leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has decried the upswing in the State debt by N75 billion under, in the six years of governor Godwin Obaseki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration.

The party alleged that the debt excludes $280 million which according to it, ranked Edo as the second most indebted state in Nigeria.

The State chairman of APC, Col. David Imuse rtd, disclosed this journalists in Benin City on Thursday.

Imuse who pointed out that the rising debt profile would further impoverish the State said, “The governor has also forwarded a bill to the  House of Assembly for additional #25 billion bond”.

Continuing, the APC chairman accused the PDP-led state government of disregard for the rule of law bacause he has refused to conduct local government election in the last one year.

According to him, “Edo’s glory has been brutalised in the last six years. We salute the residence and patience of the good people of Edo State.

“We want to say that the future is in our hands. And as a people, we must take the initiative to boot out Obaseki and PDP.”

The state Commissioner for information and Communication, Mr. Chris Nehikare, discribed APC as a lazy party.

Nehikare said, “They (APC) should google or contact the DMO to get their facts right. More so, borrowing money is not a sin, as long as it would better the lots of the people”.
