Kano state government has proposed to spend the total sum of N 233, 828, 850, 598 for 2018 fiscal year, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has disclosed.
Presenting the budget proposal to the Speaker of the Kano state House of Assembly, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata yesterday, Governor Ganduje said out of the total amount projected, the state government has earmarked the sum of N151, 902, 438,93 as capital expenditure, while the sum of N81, 926, 412, 503 stood as the recurrent expenditure.
According to him, the total revenue expected stands at the sum of N147, 657,319,982 to include the internally generated revenue and the statutory grants accruing to the coffers of the state government from the federation account, subject to the exigencies of the situation.
Works and Housing sector, he added, took the lion share of the budget with the sum of N40 billion earmarked to be spent on the sector, followed by the water sector which was expected to spend the sum of N35 billion in the 2018 fiscal year, while the health sector was allocated the sum of N9.7 billion to be spent on its activities.
He, however, stated that his administration was fully committed to exploiting all avenues for revenue generation, considering the prevailing economic situation in the country, adding that it would be fool hardy for the state government to solely rely on the revenue accruing from the federation account.
In his response, the Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, said the House had been able to make considerable headway and effected giant strides as a law making body, courtesy of the existing mutual relationship between the House and the executive arm of the government.
