Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) yesterday flagged off the ember months’ campaign to remind all motorists once more that they have to drive to stay alive.
The campaign with the theme “Operation Zero Christmas/New Year Safety campaign,” tagged “Right to Life on the Highway Not Negotiable,” the zonal commanding officer, Kingsley Agomoh, told road users, especially drivers, that the importance of driving safely “cannot be overemphasised.”
“This Christmas period, we don’t want anybody to die. We don’t want drivers to turn our wives to widows. We don’t want any driver to turn our children to orphans,” he said.
He urged drivers to always drive safely.
Also speaking, the state Sector Commander of the Corps, Ikechukwu Igwe, said drivers should reduce their speed, adding that “road safety is for all of us; it is not for road safety officers alone.”
“We don’t want to carry any dead body, this year,” he said.
on tricycle riders’ penchant to overload, Igwe said the “illegality can’t be legalised.”
“We can’t legalise overloads; the law said overload attracts same fine irrespective of the type of locomotive.”
