2 killed as gunshots rattle Anambra capital city

Two people were reportedly gunned down on Friday in Awka, the Anambra state capital, following a suspected cult battle.

According to an eyewitness, Mr. Ike Odi, the attack which took place at about 11:00am at Ukwuoji bus stop along Zik’s Avenue, left many confused and shocked.

He recalled that the hoodlums numbering five drove in a tinted glass car shot down their victims and thereafter shot sporadically into the air thereby forcing people around to scamper for safety, as they drove away.

However, when contacted, the Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, denied knowledge of the number of people killed during the attack “because there’s no information like that before me.”

“Police operatives have intensified patrols within Awka following the sound of a suspected gunshot at Ukwuoji bus stop in Awka. Information gathered at the scene from eyewitnesses showed that it’s a cult related,” he said.
