Yuletide: Police in Ondo reads riot act against use of fireworks  

Ahead of the Yuletide season, the Ondo state police command has reminded the people that there is ban on the use of all kinds of fireworks, firecrackers and knockouts a.k.a. banger.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, Oluwafunmilayo Omisanya, said considering the security situation in the country, the command will not encourage the use of explosives of any form as a means of celebrating the yuletide season.

He said it is to deter hoodlums from using it as an opportunity to perpetrate their dastardly act.

He added that in view of this, the command  warns both the sellers and the buyers to desist from any conduct or act that can cause the breach of peace enjoyed in the state.

He noted that in the same vein, parents and guardians are enjoined to advise their children/wards in the state to celebrate the Christmas and New year and not to trade in or patronise any kind of fireworks or explosives under the guise of celebration, as both the retailers, users and buyers will all be prosecuted.

The police command noted that while enjoying the euphoria of the season, the Commissioner of Police, Oyeyemi Oyediran, urges the people to be careful and celebrate within the ambit of the law.

He said residents of the state are also enjoined to report any strange or suspicious movement in their area to the nearest police station.
