Yobe: NGO targets better results in exclusive breastfeeding


Plan International an NGO based in Yobe has assured that in couple of years to come it would achieve a better result on exclusive breastfeeding in the state.

Nutrition project coordinator of plan International Yobe state, Mr.Ademola Ogunyeme, made the statement monday at an advocacy meeting in Damaturu as part of the closure of 2023 week long world breastfeeding event in the state.

Mr.Ogunyeme stated that the 2023 breastfeeding week with the theme: “Making a difference for working parent”, was to seek support for exclusive breastfeeding, six months maternity leave, introduction of paternity leave as well as a baby friendly work places for breastfeeding mothers.

He noted that,” Advocacy are still in place and revision of policies to ensure the state have bring to reality of six(6),months of leave for breastfeeding mothers so that they can actualize their exclusive breastfeeding window period of six months.

“We have implemented nutrition activities in some local government areas in the state,from our own hands of experience,at least the women are actually coming up towards exclusive breastfeeding but they are still more to be done and that is why as part of our activities to incorporate preventive activities which includes; educating them on the need of breastfeeding”.

The nutrition project coordinator further stressed that some of the women are not aware of the benefit of breastfeeding.
