Why double base can fit into any genre of music in Nigeria – Olalekan

A classical music maestro, Adebayo Olalekan has expressed concern that the Nigerian music world, dont believe the double base can fit into any genre of music.

Olalekan in a press statement said this has affected his chances of getting personal engagements as a musician because many don’t think the double base can be a solo instrument.

He also lamented transportation of these equipments from one location to the other is difficult as clients do not consider this cost.

He explained that he was born into a non-music family, began his musical career in 2005 as a member of his church choir, eyes on the price with a mindset for classical music and he moved into the double bass training, eighteen months later and he joined the orchestra where he began performing.

According to him, he has been devine symphony orchestra lead bassist ever since. He has performed in other countries of the world.

He has also written music exams both nationally and internationally, and he possesses an ABRSM Diploma from the association Board of the Royal School of Music, London.

For the first time in Nigeria, he played the full opera of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute “Die Zauberflote” in 2016. He performed with the Vesta Orchestra during the ASA ENCORE CONCERT at the Eko Hotel & Suite VI in Lagos in 2017. Over the previous decade, he traveled for music programmes from Nigeria to South Africa, the United Kingdom, Austria, and Germany.

The music meastro has shared the stage with world-renowned musicians and has infused African music into his Double Bass (a Western instrument). Among the many countries he has visited is the United Kingdom which is among his favorites as he has performed and contributed to notable events such as “The African Concert Series” in collaboration with BBC World Services, Hackney County’s coronation Coronation concert (in honor of King Charles III), and The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, to name a few.
