Wedding: Katsina philanthropist assists 200 widows

A Katsina state philanthropist, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Tata, has earmarked the sum of N150 million for the free wedding of 200 widows in Daura zone.
The Secretary, Tata Movement for 2015, Alhaji Lawal Kassim, disclosed this in an interview with Blueprint in Katsina.
He said the weeding was scheduled to take place on June 20, this year, at Daura Central Mosque, adding that the couple was selected within the 12 local government areas in the zone.
He said each of the couple was selected based on interest and readiness to re-marry her loved ones, adding that each of the couple would benefit with the sum of over N700, 000 to settle her home.
He said, according to the arrangement, Tata Foundation would pay N20,000 as dowry to each of the widows to buy N200,000 dresses and cosmetics. It would donate two sets of beds, a set of cushioned chairs, a TV set, and all furniture to every one of them.
Kassim said the Walimah party for the wedding would be conducted shortly after the wedding on Friday at Daura.
He said another set of women would be married out in Katsina and Funtua zones, respectively.
Kassim also said the essence of sponsoring the wedding was to ease the suffering of widows and divorcees “who cannot afford to re-marry due to hardship of life.”
