We will partner with stakeholders to tell Nigerian, African stories – DG VON

Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON) Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace has said the organisation would collaborate with stakeholders to tell Nigeria and African stories to the world.

The DG stated this Thursday when he led management staff of the agency on a courtesy visit to the corporate headquarters of Media Trust in Abuja.

While admitting  that Nigeria as country is not perfect, he however said there are so many positive stories to be told about Nigeria.

“At Voice of Nigeria what I have been doing since assuming office is to reach out.  As public broadcaster, we are willing to work with Nigerians and relevant stakeholders to tell the Nigerian and African story.

“In all of this, as I said earlier, we are going to be truthful, we are going to be forceful, we are going to be believable.  And in doing that we are going to admit that as a country we not perfect . If a Nigerian does something bad or something bad happens in Nigeria, it doesn’t mean that as a media organization we are not going to report it, but we are not going to report it as if we are celebrating it.  What we would celebrate are the positive things that are happening in our country.

“We are not going to go about as Voice of Nigeria to celebrate negative news about Nigeria.

“However, that doesn’t mean if something negative is happening we are not going to bring government attention to it.  We have to do stories that draw attention. We are not going to create contents that seems as if all is well with Nigeria. But one thing is sure, at Voice of Nigeria, we are going to create contents that are believable, trustworthy in order to regain public trust in public broadcasters,” he said.

MalIam Ndace said his  job as the director general of VON has been made easy by the disposition and temperament of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in handling issues.

“If you observed, there are some decisions that the president took and he was not shy from reversing it where supervisor argument was put forward.

“Most importantly, my boss and mentor, the honourable minister of information and national orientation Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi , one of the things he said when he assumed office and he has been consistent at rechoeing it at every opportunity is that he is going to tell Nigerians the truth about government policies and programmes. The voice of Nigeria as  a public broadcaster intends to key into it.”
