UniCal to honour Abdulsalami, Ebri, others as varsity graduates 9,174

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Zana Akpagu, has disclosed of plans to honour former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar, Chairman Igbo Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Cletus Ilomuanya and former governor of Cross River state, Chief Clement Ebri, for their contributions to humanity.

Professor Akpagu also said the institution would on Friday and Saturday graduate a total of 9174 students and commission projects instituted by the current UniCal administration.

Akpagu, who made this known on Tuesday during a press conference to kick-start the convocation ceremony, noted that the three distinguished Nigerians would be honoured with honorary doctorate degrees, and that while Gen Abubakar would be awarded Doctorate Degree on Public Administration, HRM Ilomuanya would have his on Business Administration and Chief Ebri on Political Science.

The VC submitted that the breakdown of those to graduate indicated that whereas 7,752 students would graduate with first degree, 1,074 would have higher degrees like Ph Ds, Masters and PGDs. He said UniCal as an institution could boast of only five 1st class students but that 46 students from affiliate colleges would also get 1st class, totalling 51.

The VC added that 318 students who enrolled in diploma programme in the different institutes of the university would also be part of the convocation.

He explained that convocation for diplomas, first degrees and induction into UniCal alumni association would take place on Friday at the Abraham Ordia stadium while Saturday, April 13 would witness award of higher degrees and conferment of honorary degrees as well as endowment fund launching.
