UBEC partners KOICA to establish model schools in FCT

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA), have concluded a joint arrangements to establish to establishment of a model primary and secondary school in Abuja.
At the ground-breaking ceremony, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Bello, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the FCT, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye, took place at the project site in Lugbe last week.

A statement by UBEC stated that the joint venture, which is estimated at $15m, is aimed at promoting friendship and international cooperation between Nigeria and Korea.
The model schools, when completed, would provide global standard education of 24 classrooms for 720 pupils and 40 teachers, 15 classrooms for 480 junior secondary students and 38 teachers, among others.
I is expected to be an integrated high-tech learning facility. The proposed facility is to be executed within a two-year period by a Korean civil engineering outfit, Jangsan Construction Company and made ready for use in 2018.

UBEC executive secretary, Alhaji Dikko Suleiman, who was represented at the event by Deputy Executive Secretary (Services), Dr. Yakubu Gambo recalled the Commission’s pioneering role in initiating the partnership that led to the establishment of the all-inclusive world class schools project.
He commended KOICA, the FCT Education Secretariat and other partners for investing in the Model Schools and pledged to support the project until its completion.
