Tiv community leader pledges improved welfare for members

Newly elected Chairman of Tiv Community Progressive Association (TICPA) in Kuje area council, Mr. Benjamin Ikyo, has promised to run an open administration that “will vigorously improve the social welfare of members and provide visible development within the three-year period that the tenure of the new executive will last.”

Th e chairman listed a 16-point development agenda which included “providing a new 16-seater bus for the association, constructing a meeting hall and an offi ce complex and ensuring that the association is duly registered with the Corporate Aff airs Commission (CAC) to enable it enjoy the benefi ts of a cooperative society.”

Ikyo, who outlined these programmes after the inauguration of the executive in Kuje, frowned upon the “divisive behaviours of some members such as use of abusive language at meetings, which have contributed to disunity within the Tiv community.” He, therefore, urged sober refl ection, maturity and a change of attitude among members. Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Ankpande Nicholas, agreed with the new chairman on the need for members to change their attitude towards others by showing more respect for one another and called on well-meaning individuals to support the community.

On his part, the Immediate past Chairman, Mr. Clement Audu, was full of gratitude to members for giving him the opportunity to serve the community and he called for total support for the new executive to enable it actualise the programmes outlined for the next three years. Our correspondent reports that performance excellence awards were given to some prominent members of the community which included Blueprint reporter, Chief Donald Iorchir.

Th e event was made rich by youths who performed with exotic Tiv cultural dances, music and drama. Other members of the new executive are Benjamin Uwua, vicechairman; Gabriel Asongo, secretary; John Mpaleghga, assistant secretary; Stephen Tyav, fi nancial secretary. Also elected were Th addeus Ortwav, treasurer; Charles Aoo, youth leader; Josephine Adi, women leader; Peter Oota, provost, Joseph Abahia and Ashioron Sule as welfare offi cers, respectively.
