Confusion hits NFF over new Super Eagles coach

Poor decision making has thrown the NFF into a serious muddle in their continued search for a new coach for the Super Eagles.

It was specially gathered that the NFF leadership is now bombarded by all manners of pressure over who should be named the Super Eagles coach after it dilly dallied over such an appointment since the end of February when Jose Peseiro moved on.

Several NFF top officials have now told SCORENigeria it is most regreatable that they did not appoint a coach of their choice soon after and that has since left a vacuum, which many interest groups now wish to fill with their own man.

The search for a new coach for the Super Eagles took a dramatic turn Thursday when an NFF delegation led by president Ibrahim Gusau met with the Sports Minister John Enoh.

The minister virtually overturned the recommendation of the NFF technical committee that put forward three foreign coaches to be considered to head the Super Eagles.

Instead, he made his own recommendations, while at the same time telling the NFF chieftains that the final decision lies squarely with them.

“If we had made an appointment soon after Peseiro left, we would have done so on our own terms and given the job to coach of our choice,” lamented one of the top officials.

“Now as it stands, we may be forced to appoint some other people’s candidate and should he fail, we will still be held responsible.”

Another official likened the present situation to when another Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, arm twisted the NFF to get Emmanuel Amuneke to assist Augustine Eguavoen and in the end Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
