In his determination to change the face of education in the state, Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has sent a Bill tagged: “Right to Education Bill 2016” to the state House of Assembly for ratification.
By this, Sokoto state has moved a step ahead to make education compulsory in the state, a statement by  state Commissioner of Justice, Suleiman Usman, stated.
Usman said this is the first time any state in the country would seek legislation in the country to  “legally make education a fundamental human rights of all children.
“The bill is one of the major components of the policy on the state of emergency in education declared in the state in December 2015 by His Excellency, Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

In this regard, “Sokoto will be the first state in Nigeria to provide right to education, thereby bringing it in conformity with status of fundamental objective and directive principle of state policy under chapter two of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999”, Usman added.
The Commissioner further assured that the move would consolidate the declaration of state of emergency in education by the administration, emphasizing that the Bill was one of the major achievements of the Tambuwal administration,
Usman added that in view of the high premium the administration attached to rural transformation and delivery of social services to the people, especially at the grassroots, the Social and Community Development Agency Bill 2016 had also been initiated and had also been sent to the state House of Assembly.
“This Bill seeks to create Social and Community Development Agency for the execution of social and community development projects throughout Sokoto state,” Usman explained.
