AMAC opens tender for award of contracts

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Tuesday, opened tender for award of contracts to contractors desirous of facilitating projects for the council.

Speaking during the event at AMAC legislative chambers, Chairman, Tenders Board Committee, Hon. Ja’afaru M. Gwagwa, said the tender is to create a level playing field and great opportunities for all interested Nigerians to participate in the development of the Council.

“As a government, we want to assure you that we would continue the good works which we have started and we move ahead to actualize our dreams. Your coming here today has shown that AMAC is transparent in the award of contracts.

“After this process, the technical members of the tender board will analyze the tenders and come up with the list of successful contractors. On this note, I hereby declare this event open,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director of Admin, Musa Sule Sarki, warned contractors that their contract will not be reviewed once awarded.

He said it is not business as usual, lamenting that many contactors are fond of going to sleep once they secure contracts, only to come back in two or three months time to demand review of their contracts due to market forces.

He said that Chairman of the council, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, will liaise with legal advisers of the council in order for the contractors to sign documents against laxity and contract review.

On his part, Head of Department of Works, Architect Andrew Gaza, said that projects captured in the 2024 budget of the council include road construction, rural electrification, construction of primary healthcare centers (PHCs), building of classroom blocks, drilling of solar powered boreholes, fencing of schools, fencing of PHCs, among others.

He advised the contractors to live up to expectations if they are lucky to win the biddings, which he said included building and construction and quantity surveying.

Blueprint reports that over 15 companies had rendered their bids and were presently being considered as of the time of filing this report.
