Sit-at-home:  One killed, 2 buses, 5 tricycles set ablaze in Enugu

Armed hoodlums, believed to be enforcing the usual sit-at-home order every Monday instituted by the pro-Biafra group, IPOB, in the early hours of Monday, killed an elderly motorist and also set two commercial Sienna buses and five tricycles ablaze in Enugu, Enugu state capital.

The ugly incident was said to have taken place at the popular Liberty Bus Stop, Abakpa-Nike, Enugi East local government area.

It was gathered that the armed men stormed the every-busy bus-stop at about 5.30am, shooting sporadically to scare away residents who were coming out of their houses for the day’s business.

In the ensuing melee, it was also gathered that the two Sienna buses and tricycles whose owners had positioned to convey travelers from the area were ignited by the dare-devils.

Subsequently, the gunmen were said to have moved to the T-Junction where they tried to force an elderly man out of his car but he resisted thereby infuriating the rampaging hoodlums to open his fuel tank and shot into it which produced fire that cremated the man inside his vehicle.

“They stopped the man and commanded him to step out of the car, the man resisted and that made the gunmen to open the fuel tank, shot into the tank making the car to go up in flames with the man inside,” an eyewitness said.
