Scarcity: Motorists accuse NNPC mega station of diversion

As fuel scarcity persists across the country, motorists in Kebbi state have accused the NNPC Mega stations in Birnin kebbi of diverting the commodity for sale to independent major marketers.

Speaking to newsmen on the situation in Birnin Kebbi, a cross-section of motorists expressed dismay over the development.
Malam Bala Na Dabo said he had spent two days on queue and that “I witnessed that the petrol brought to the mega station was diverted; this is the second days that I have slept at the station. Yesterday, at midnight, I noticed two tankers leaving the station to an unknown destination.”

He further alleged that before the fuel crisis, officials of the station opened at 8 am and closed at 6pm every day, “but now they open and close at will.

”He added the pump price was still at N97 per litre at the station, stressing that this as why they diverted the commodity to sell to shylock marketers in order to make profits as the marketers were selling at N155 per litre.
In the Birnin Kebbi metropolis, only the NNPC Mega station and AZMAN petrol stations rendered skeletal services, while black marketers were making a brisk business.

A galloon of four litres now sells at N1, 000 and a jerry can of 25 litres sells for between N5, 500 and N6, 000.
Efforts made to get the comments of the NNPC Mega station manager, Malam Umar Bunza, proved abortive as he was said to have fled the station for fear of being lynched by angry motorists who demanded for his head after the information of ‘petrol has finished’ was broken yesterday.
