Rivers govt awards N195bn PHC Ring Road to Julius Berger

The Rivers state government has signed a contract with engineering construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, for construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road.

A press statement by the company’s media office, on Thursday, disclosed that during the contract-signing ceremony at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, lauded Julius Berger’s on its successful professional imprint on landmark projects in the state.

Governor Fubara disclosed that the state government would pay 77 per cent of the contract sum, totaling about N150 billion to commence the works.

He further assured that the state government was committed to paying the balance once it was certified that Julius Berger has completed about 75 per cent of the job.

According to the governor, the project would span six local government areas of the state including, Okrika, Eleme, Echie, Ikwerre and Obia-Akpor even as he advised the people of the project area to responsibly cooperate with the contractors to accomplish the project as scheduled.

Governor Fubara cautioned traditional rulers and youths of the listed Local Government areas and their communities not to hinder the work of the contractors in any way whatsoever.

On his part the Managing Director, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter, stated that though the company had been challenged several times with the construction of important infrastructural projects in Rivers state, it had never failed any of such engineering construction challenges.

According to the MD, every contract awarded to the company had been delivered successfully and always before scheduled delivery date.
