Redeemer varsity graduates in dilemma over non-admission into Law School

Law graduates of the Redeemers University (RUN), Ede, Osun state, and their parents are in dilemma as a result of non-admission of the students to the Nigerian Law School.

The university commenced its Law programme LLB (Hons) in 2017 and graduated her first set of Law students on 18th October, 2022.

The first set of Law graduates were expected by tradition to proceed to the Nigerian Law School but were unable to do so because of some issues which were not made known to both students and their parents.

A statement issued Wednesday on behalf of parents of the affected students, Mr. Sunday Dada, an Abuja based lawyer, said some of the students had to commence their mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps programme.

He stated further that: “Because they had not attended the Nigerian Law School and were not yet called to the Nigerian Bar, service year was hectic and hellish for some of the students as most Law firms and other agencies rejected them.

When it became clear to the students and their parents that the institution kept them in the dark about the admission status of the Law graduates into the Nigerian Law School, they quickly formed a Whatsapp group called RUNLAW ALUMNI PARENTS to pressurise the school authority, know the true position of things and the way forward.

“The then vice chancellor, Professor Akinlo, directed the Dean of Faculty of Law to organise a zoom meeting with the parents at the beginning of year 2023. The meeting was held but there was no hope or assurance from the Dean, Professor Akinola, who represented the university and that was the last we heard from the university as all efforts to hear from the school has proved abortive.

“Up till this moment, the university authority is yet to disclose to the parents or the students what exactly is the problem and what is stopping our children from being admitted into the Nigerian Law School.

“…The university authority deliberately kept valuable information from both the parents and the students forgetting the fact that some of the parents might be of valuable assistance in resolving the issues. The parents and students were actually treated with disdain and contempt having paid huge tuition and other fees running into millions of naira.”
