Reps committee never walked us out – Udoma Udoma, Belo-Osagie lawyers

Lawyers from the firm of Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie have said the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes, Honourable Ginger Onwusibe,  did not walk them out from the proceeding of the committee on December 18th, 2023 as reported by Blueprint in its story of December 19, 2023.

The lawyers, while reacting to the said publication, described the story as “wholly false, malicious and defamatory,” explaining that what actually transpired  was that, “Following an invitation by the Committee to Binance  Holdings Ltd to appear before an investigative  panel on 18th December 2023, we  were instructed by Binance to represent it at the investigative hearing. Prior to the date of the hearing, we had submitted to the Committee a letter on behalf of Binance by which we responded to the request for information in the letter.

“On the 18th December 2023, we met with the Chairman of the Committee in his office. The meeting was attended by Mr Onwusibe and two other members of the Committee, namely, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Hon Peter Akpanke and two lawyers from our firm. It is instructive to note that there were no journalists at the meeting, which, as already indicated above, took place in the office of Hon. Onwusibe.”

Our apology

Since this publication, we have noted the misrepresentation of the facts on the issue and the inconveniences it would have caused the firm and all its clients, and hereby tender our unreserved apology over the story.
