A High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa state capital, Thursday, convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old man, Israfilu Sagiru, of Zarena village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area (LGA) to life imprisonment for rape offence.
The convict was first arraigned on September 5, 2021, before the High Court on a two-count rape charges for luring and sodomising two ‘almajiri’ pupils aged 11 and 12, on the pretext of giving them new clothes, Daily Post reports.
In order to prove the case, the prosecution called three witnesses, tendered a confessional statement of the defendant and evidence of a forensic examination.
Delivering judgment, Justice Musa Ubale said the prosecution from the State Ministry of Justice, had proved all the ingredients of rape.
He said the offense was contrary to Section 3 (1) (e) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP) No. 02, 2021.
Justice Ubale therefore sentenced the accused person to life imprisonment.
