Police arraign 2 for unlawful possession of firearms in Osun

Osun state police command, Monday, arraigned two persons – Agbebunmi Abiodun and Ogundare Olamilekan, before a federal high court sitting in Osogbo for conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.

The prosecutor, Francis Ossai, told the court that the suspects were standing trial before a state high court where they had jumped bail on alleged cultism and murder.

He added that they were caught in Ilesa on February 6, 2024, around 8 pm with the firearm, an offense contrary to section 516 of the state criminal law and section 27 of the Firearms Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

However, one of the defendants, Agbedare Abiodun told the court that they did not jump bail before the magistrate court, where they were standing trial but they were not in court due to strike action by judiciary workers in the state.

Defence counsel, Oluwatosin Ajoba, in his oral bail application, urged the court to admit the defendants to bail in the most liberal terms.

Justice Mashkur Salisu admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties each, one of which must be a blood relative and the other, a civil servant of level 12 and above.

He thereby adjourned the case to April 17, 2024, for a definite hearing.
