Plateau pilgrims board boss urges pilgrims to support govt

The executive secretary of the Plateau state Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Rev. Fr. George Gorap, has charged the state’s pilgrims currently in the Holy Land to support the government.

According to him, it was the state government that made it possible for them to undertake the spiritual journey to Israel.

This was contained in a report sent to Blueprint Thursday from the Holy Land by the head of media of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. Celestine Toruka, an assistant director.

The report indicated that Gorap gave the charge in an exclusive interview with the commission’s media boss at Galilee, Israel.

Gorap enjoined the state’s pilgrims to pray for themselves and for the success of the Governor Simon Lalong -led administration even as he commended the governor for “advancing the cause of Christian pilgrimage in Plateau and in Nigeria as a whole.”

The Catholic priest, however, appealed to the governor to remain focused in his development strides and called on well-meaning Christians in the state to complement the governor’s efforts the state government efforts “by sponsoring Christians who are spiritually rich, but materially poor on Holy pilgrimage to Israel.”

Gorap also commended the pilgrims for their “wonderful conduct so far in Israel which is expected of them as they have always been.”

He said his expectations would be to have a spiritually fulfilled pilgrimage anchored on prayers and thanked the NCPC for the measures it put in place to make this year’s pilgrimage a hitch-free exercise.

Blueprint reports that the first batch of intending pilgrims from the state took off from Abuja on December 17, and would complete their pilgrimage circle on December 26, when they are expected to return to the country.
