PHC treats 524 sexual violence victims since 2008

A Primary Health Care Centre in Ungwar Rimi, Kaduna North local government area of Kaduna state, has treated 524 cases of sexual violence from 2018 to date.

A staff of the Centre, Hauwa Ahmed, disclosed this while presenting a paper titled ‘Medical Statistics and Perspective’ at a seminar organized by Unguwar Rimi community in collaboration with Women Skills Initiative in Kaduna.

She said 315 of the victims were female, while 209 of them were male between the ages of 10 and 24.

Hauwa said further that 12 of the female and 10 male victims tested positive for HIV out of the number.

She lamented that the cases are from two communities of Ungwar Rimi and Ungwar Kudu both in Kaduna North local government area.

Also speaking on cases of rape from religious point of view, Sheikh Musa Tanimu and Rev. Sani Chindu Takura urged the society to assist in addressing the menace.

They also encouraged parents to accord the same priority given to western education to religious studies of their children to ensure that they were imbibed with moral uprightness as they grow up.
