Abducted ex-Nasarawa commissioner regains freedom

The former Nasarawa state Commissioner for Higher Education, Chief Clement Uhembe, who was abducted Tuesday night by gunmen has regained his freedom.

He was released by his abductors and re-united with his family at about 9:pm Thursday after an undisclosed sum of money was paid as ransom.

Gunmen had on Tuesday night abducted the former commissioner at his residence at Akunza Migili, an outskirt of Lafia and demanded N30 million ransom for his release.

While recounting his ordeal in the hands of his abductors the former commissioner said the kidnappers chained him throughout the period he was in captivity.

“My experience in the kidnappers’ den is something one will not wish even his worst enemy to pass through. I really saw hell. I had trekked for about six hours with them from my house where they picked me to a thick forest around the Adogi area of Lafia local government area.”

He said further that there were many other victims abducted from different parts of the country, who were still being held in that forest.

“I observed that they have a very strong network and a unique way of communication within the forest. I thank God for sparing my life and I appreciate the state government, security agencies whose efforts ensured my safe release,” he said.
