One dead many injured in Bayelsa market accident

Tragedy struck Tuesday Yenagoa, Bayelsa State when a truck conveying sand to a project site in swali community ran into road side traders at the popular market in the community killing a woman and injuring over 15 persons.
It was reported to have ran into the crowd of traders after loosing control caused by a failed brake.
The  ‎sand truck, with registration number XC 858 NNE , lost  control and ran into the crowd of traders.
The incident however threw the massive market into panic with sympathisers, men of the Road Safety Corps and ‎other and other rescue organisations into a frenzy.
When contacted, the Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bayelsa, Igwe Ikechukwu confirmed the development and attributed the cause of the accident to brake failure and dangerous trading along the road.
He confirmed that a woman was crushed to death and the corpse deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, ” the accident could have been avoided if the traders had moved their trade into the designated shops instead of the roadside.
He called on market women at Swali, Kpamsia and Igbogene to be safety conscious and move their trade into the market to avoid dangerous and deadly accidents during this festive season.
