Ogun sets up c’ttee on students’ crisis

In its bid to foster healthy relationship between students and the government, the Ogun state government has revealed plans to set up a “Police Students Community Relations Committee” to address issues concerning students in the state.

The special adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Students Matters, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi, disclosed this Wednesday, during his campus tour to Ogun state Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa.

The committee, according to Adeyemi, will comprise representatives of the Ogun state police command, the leadership of the Students Union Government (SUG) of tertiary institutions in the state, members of the communities where schools are located and representatives of the government.

Adeyemi, who met with the students of OGITECH, leaders of the community development association (CDA) of the school, representatives of the state police command and the school management, stressed that the committee would be charged with the responsibility of peacefully resolving crises between students, school communities and the government.

Adeyemi, who reiterated Governor Abiodun’s commitment to the development of education in the State, identified education as the key sector in the overall development of the State.

He commended the governor for his unalloyed for students in the State, adding that the committee would serve as a veritable platform to bring the students and school managements more closer to the government.

His words, “We are lucky in the state to have a governor who has the interest of the students at heart, a leader who is not only concerned about the welfare of the students but also committed to alleviating their sufferings.”

“I see it needful to embark on this campus to campus tour in order for this administration to have first hand information about the real issues and challenges confronting students in the state.”

He urged leaders of the community to see the students as their own children and cultivate a good relationship with them, saying, “I want to plead with you to continue to accommodate the students irrespective of whatever they may do for you.”

While stressing the importance of students in the achievement of the Governor Abiodun’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda, Adeyemi said the students remained a key factor in restoring the lost glory of education in the State.

Adeyemi appealed to the police to be more professional in dealing with the students, insisting that students were animals and they must be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the SUG President of OGITECH, Ogunleye Eniola called on the government to come to the aid of the school by equipping their medical centre.

He listed some of the demands of the students to include, Electronic Library, hostel accommodation, regular power supply and adequate classrooms, among others.
