NPFL: IMC schedules 2022/23 season kick off date for December

 

The Interim Management Committee managing the Nigeria Professional Football League has tentatively fixed December 1 as the kick off date for the  2022/23 NPFL season. 

The IMC after a meeting in Abuja had already disclosed that the league will be played in an abridged format with the likelihood that eight stadium will be used to prosecute the matches.

The IMC staffers were also on ground to induct the newly promoted clubs –Bayelsa United, Insurance FC, Doma United and ElKanemi Fc of Maiduguri on what id expected of them in the area of player’s licensing ,insurance , protocol ,security and other logistics for the success of the league.

The abridged league is to enable the Nigerian football calender to align with that of Europe and the rest of the world.

“We are planning to start the league season in December and hopefully conclude by May next year in order to align with European season and check the frequency of exodus of players to foreign countries league,” our IMC source who requested anonymity divulged.

“The league has to be abridged because we don’t have time and we have to ensure that we meet the deadline set for the completion of the league season. It is not easy, but with the cooperation of the clubs, match officials, sponsors and the NFF I think we can meet the targeted dates.”

The IMC is also working round the clock to ensure that the NPFL is on television, they met with top shot of Nigeria Television Authority on Tuesday to discuss modalities and also  discussing with  other cable and terrestrial stations on how to televised the games live.
