Northern youths unite against crises in region

Youths from the northern part of the country have agreed to join forces in order to tackle the “intractable problems of insurgency and other worrisome challenges confronting the region.”

The youth, acting under the umbrella of Coalition of Northern Nigerian Youth Congress (CNNYC), said it could no longer fold its arms and watch the current insurgency, disunity, ethnicity, religious bigotry and other challenges bedeviling the youth in the North.

A statement issued by both the National President of the Coalition, Mr. Hassan Waziri Chinade, and Secretary General, Mr. Aliyu Bin Abbas, yesterday, in Abuja, said youth representatives from the 19 northern states met in Kano recently to thoroughly examine “some of these issues.”
It said the North eastern part of the country had been enveloped by the Boko Haram horrendous attacks and killing of innocent people including school children.

Chinade called on relevant institutions of government to be more proactive in measures to stem the tide of insecurity in the region.
He said peace and unity must be restored to the region for meaningful development to take place in the region and the country at large.
He said: “Youth representatives from different civil society, religious organisations and NGOs in all part of the North came together and unanimously agreed to form the coalition.”
