NITT, drivers move against road mishaps

Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, and drivers, under the aegis of Association of Drivers in Nigeria (ADIN), are in partnership to arrest incessant road accidents across the country.
The duo made their stands known when they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to that effect, according to a statement issued by the Institute’s spokesman, Mr.
Paul Ali Msheliza, in Zaria, yesterday.
The statement quoted the Acting Director-General of the Institute, Dr.
Abimbola O.
Odumosu, as stressing the role the Institute played in promoting professionalism in the transport sector as a way of reducing traffic accidents.
Odumosu, who said NITT had recently decentralised its programmes in order to cater for the training needs of its clients in different parts of the country, added that the Institute had “a duly certified driving school in line with the Federal Road Safety Corps regulations.” “This memorandum of understanding comes at a pivotal moment.
It is a significant milestone as it seeks to address some of the complex challenges that have profound implications on safety.
This signing therefore establishes a new strategic partnership between NITT and ADIN,” the statement read in part.
On his part, the National Deputy President of ADIN, Engr.
Umar Musa Mohammed, stressed the strategic importance of the MoU which he described as “a significant milestone” that had the potential of transforming the transport sector.
He hoped the MoU would kick start an action plan that would translate to safer highways and well trained professionals.
“The planned workshop will go a long way in reducing the carnage on Nigeria’s highways,” he said and commended the federal government for its efforts “towards improving the road infrastructure.”
