Nigeria needs family restructuring to curb thuggery, insecurity – Osun assembly Chief Whip

The Chief Whip of the Osun state House of Assembly, Hon. Olatunji Babatunde Lekan, has recommended family restructuring for the eradication of thuggery in Nigeria.


Speaking at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Osogbo, during a familiarisation visit to news men hf Tuesday, the legislator emphasized the need for each families to restructure their homes.


He attributed overpopulation and lack of adequate care to the misbehaviour of some youths in the society.


The legislator who said many prisons are better than some homes in Nigeria, stated that experience has shown that many children are sleeping at the corridor of their house due to the size of the family.


“We must start family restructuring. It is very important to correct thuggery at different homes. Many prisons are better than some homes in Nigeria. I’ve visited some homes that you will see many children, finding where to sleeps because they are about twelve in a room with their parents.”


He also advocated for the need to hold public office holder accountable, saying “accountability in government is not negotiable. It is high time we hold our government accountable.


The legislator, representing Ife North at the state assembly, called on Nigerians to see the fight against insurgents as collective war. He said, “we have to join hands in building our society.”


Commenting on the rate of kidnapping in Osun state, the legislator insisted that Osun still remains one of the peaceful state in Nigeria. 


He stated that the Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, is striving to end the kidnapping and other banditry, calling on the people of the state to join hands with the government to make the state crime free.
