Nigeria @ 62: Mark, Nnamani preach justice, equity

Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark and Senator Chimaroke Nnamani ( PDP Enugu East),  have  urged Nigerians to leverage on the 2023 general elections to elect credible leaders that would get the country out of the woods through governance driven by Justice , Equity and Fairness among all peoples of the Country.

The duo made the appeal in separate statements issued Friday in Abuja to commemorate the 62nd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria.

Senator Mark in his own goodwill message to Nigerians ,  noted the myriads of socio-economic and political challenges facing the nation but expressed optimism that “the problems are surmountable if we work together“.

For him, “the 2023 elections presents another opportunity to take stock of the journey so far with a view to righting the wrongs of the past through the ballot boxes towards enthroning government that will adhere to the principles of Justice , Equity and Fairness , needed in taking the Nationhood journey to the right destination .

He  cautioned desperate political office seekers to avoid resort to our emotional fault-lines like religious or ethnic considerations in order to gain advantage over opponents pointing out that such politicians are liabilities who have nothing to offer.

“We should avoid such mundane issues that tend to be an impediment to our peace and unity. At 62, Nigeria cannot be said to be a toddler anymore. We must therefore rise above primordial sentiments and live up to our billings as the giant of Africa”, he  stressed.

Senator Nnamani in his own goodwill message ,  said peace and unity is the product of justice, fairness and equity.

According to him, as  campaigns for the 2023 general elections gathers momentum, public office seekers should  put the unity and peace of Nigeria above personal ambitions.

The Senator cautioned against resort to issues like ethnic or religious affiliation during campaigns that may put asunder to the cohesion and corporate existence of the country pointing out that “there must be a country before personal ambition can be realized“.

He added that all hands must be on deck to build a national cohesion that guarantees true freedom and wellbeing of all.

He also harped on the need to strengthen the security architecture of the country, pointing out that an unsecured nation can neither assure the safety of its citizens nor engender growth and  development of the country.

Senator Nnamani lamented that virtually every part of the country is under siege, threatened by terrorists and bandits lamenting that “no one is truly safe in his or her home, schools, worship centers, places of works and on the roads anymore “.
