Senator Solomon Ewuga has dismissed allegations that the Nasarawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign organisation had misappropriated N200 million donated by the national headquarters of the party.
A statement signed by Ewuga alleged that the reports were orchestrated by detractors of the party that were hell bent on causing disaffection amongst the ranks of the party.
Ewuga challenged the authors of the story to provide facts and figures on how and where such funds were donated and misappropriated.
A national daily (not Blueprint) had reported that the initial N200 million out of the N1 billion released for the state PDP campaigns was allegedly pocketed by the state presidential campaign council headed by the Nasarawa state Deputy Governor, Damishi Barau Luka
The reports said that deputy governor was allegedly operating the campaign council singlehandedly without the involvement of other sub-committees set up by the party to work jointly to prosecute both the governorship and presidential campaigns.
The statement said that at no time did the campaign organisation receive such amount from either the federal government or party executive at the national level.
Ewuga said that such allegations were out to tarnish the image of the party in the state and to seek for relevance by the authors.
While urging the media to always cross-check their facts before going to the press, especially as the general elections were fast approaching.
He further urged them to be mindful of disgruntled elements tha were hell bent on causing annihilation and disharmony in the party.
The statement added that what should be of priority to Nigerians was how to conduct successful elections but not any report that would instigate crisis and create disaffection in the polity.
“The essence of this press statement is not to join issue with anybody or a group of people but to clarify the falsehood allegations by a section of the media who are playing the scripts of PDP distracters about the unfounded N200 million.
“We want to make it clear that we never collected such money from anybody but whoever has evidence to the contrary should come forward with it and make it known to the public or desist from such ungodly acts.”
