Nasarawa: NDLEA command marks 2023 UN Day against drug abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Nasarawa state command has outlined activities to commemorate the 2023 United Nations International Day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

State Commander of narcotics Mr. Peter Onche Odaudu outlined the activities at a press briefing on Monday, at the command’s headquarters in Lafia. With a theme, “People First. Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention”

He explained that the programme kicked-off with a press briefing at the command headquarters in Lafia, followed by sensitisation at Okada park on Tuesday, June 20, Wednesday, June 21 sensitisation at on the move park Lafia, June 22nd, sensitisation at office of Keke riders, June 23 Juma’at prayers, June 24, road walk uniform, June 25 Thanksgiving church service at the RCCG Kings Perish and June 26 NUJ secretariat.

He said this year’s celebration sought to bring to the fore the need for love and care to be shown to those involved in drug abuse, who the agency’s perception are sick people.

“Furthermore, it places a demand on all and sundry to desist from stigmatizing drug abusers and to focus attention on how to strengthen prevention from doing drugs,” he said.

He therefore, solicited for the public’s cooperation in sustaining the drug awareness campaign and encouraged them to be partners with the agency in the onerous task of taming the deadly twin evil.
