NAFOWA trains 150 widows, youths on skills acquisition

Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) has trained another batch of 150 trainees of its skill acquisition and vocational training programme in Bauchi, Bauchi state.
The beneficiaries, according to NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore, Olatokunbo Adesanya said the trainees would undergo 10 weeks training in various vocational skills such as fashion designing, catering and confectioneries production, barbing and hairdressing, computer appreciation, satellite installation, interior decoration and soft furnishing, and leather shoes manufacturing.
He said the training was in furtherance of the NAFOWA service to humanity and eff orts at reducing unemployment among women and youths in the country.
Adesanya said the NAFOWA National President, and the wife of the Chief of Air Staff , Hajiya Hafsat Sadique Abubakar, enjoined trainees to show commitment and diligence throughout the training period.
He said: “The NAFOWA National President said the focus of the skill acquisition programme was to make participants economically productive noting that the programme was not only limited to residents of NAF Bases but had also been extended to the host communities as part of NAFOWA’s corporate social responsibility.
“Hajiya Hafsat also used the opportunity of the inauguration to pay a courtesy call on the wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Muhammad, who congratulated NAFOWA on the successes achieved so far in the area of skills acquisition across the country.
She said she was delighted to see that the objectives of NAFOWA include bringing about a positive change to the lives of our women and youths.
“She said one of the challenges now with most women is fi nancial independence.
Nobody can do it better than the women because women know where the shoe pinches.
” NAFOWA had this year graduated 150 beneficiaries of its skill acquisition and vocational training programme in Port Harcourt.
It had also trained and empowered over 800 women and youths in Makurdi, Lagos, Kaduna, and Maiduguri.
