An Upper Area court in Zuba (FCT) has sentenced a mechanic, Sani Kadir, 20, to five months in prison for cheating a trader, Sunday Aneke, of N15,000.
Kadir, of Yimi Village, Zuba, was charged with cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Malam Aminu Sa’ad, the presiding judge, sentenced Kadir after he pleaded guilty, and gave him the option of paying a fine of N15, 000.
He ordered him to pay N15, 000 in compensation to Aneke, the nominal complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Haruna Danlami, told the court that on May 3, Aneke lodged a report against the accused at the Zuba Police Station.
Danlami said the complainant gave the accused N15, 000 to repair his vehicle’s gear box but that instead of repairing it, he converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
