Ondo: APC governorship aspirants back Aiyedatiwa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in the recently held governorship primary election in Ondo State have called on all the members of the party to work for the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the September 21 governorship election in the state.

Recall that the governorship, which saw the emergence ofAiyedatiwa has been generating furore as one of the aspirants, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, dragged the party to court.

He has been reportedly suspended by APC.

But seven of the aspirants – Barrister Morayo Lebi; Professor Dayo Faduyile; Dr Soji Ehinlanwo; Prince Diran Iyantan; Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin; Engineer Dr Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo; and Hon Jimi Odimayo; in a statement they jointly issued over the weekend, appealed to other aggrieved governorship aspirants to sheath their swords.

The former governorship aspirants, who noted that the party’s position is sacrosanct, called for a genuine reconciliation ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.

“We – under-list edited chieftains of our Party – the APC – who were aspirants in the just concluded Governorship Primary wish to call all members of our party who have a genuine interest in the success of the party in the forthcoming general election in November to embrace peace for a resounding victory in the polls.

“The party position is that His Excellency Lucky Aiyedatiwa is our gubernatorial candidate, this position should be sacrosanct to us all even when some of us have expressed some reservations. We acknowledge that perfection is a moving target.

“Victory for our Party in the upcoming November Governorship election is of paramount importance. We therefore call on all Party men and women to rally behind our party’s candidate – His Excellency Lucky Aiyedatiwa – henceforth to achieve outstanding victory

“We hereby appeal to other aspirants and members of our great party, who are aggrieved to put aside their grievances in the larger interest of the party. We need everyone on board in the collective march towards victory. We endorse genuine reconciliation efforts as proposed by our party”, they said.
