Leadership crisis management: Private school proprietors set-up committees for transition

 

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools of Nigeria (NAPPS) has set up the National Electoral Committee, (NECOM) and Transitional Committee to oversee the association, following the expiration of the Chief Yomi Otubela-led administration on November 22, 2023.

Blueprint reports that members of the BoT include: Dr. Mijinyawa Said (Chairman), Prince Sakiru Raji (Secretary), while members include: Samira Jibir, PhD,  Dr. Francisca Chinwe Ohkezo,  Hauwa Abarshi, Obong Edet Inwang Udoh, Comrade Jude Idakpo, Chief Gbenga Olowie ,Hajiya Wakilbe Ashe and, Chief Awa.

Addressing journalists, Wednesday, in Abuja, Chairman of NAPPS BoT, Dr. Mijinyawa Said, said the members of the two committees must not have political ambitions in the next administration which they are to midwife, adding that the two committees have 120 days (March 22, 2024) within which to carry out their assignments.

He said the Chief Yomi Otubela-led administration elapsed without adequate and proper plan for handover, in order for the NAPPS BoT to save the association from untold administrative upheavals, hence the proactive move of setting up the electoral and transition committees.

He said: “Following the expiration of Chief Yomi Otubela led administration, today 22nd November, 2023, without adequate and proper plan for handover, in order for the Board of Trustees of NAPPS Nigeria to save the association from untold administrative up heavers, the doctrine of necessity is here by invoked and the following action plans rolled out to mid wife a new administration to manage the affairs of the association and conduct credible elections within 120 days or 4 months:  

“A member of the National Electoral Committee, NECOM, will come from each of the 6 zones to be headed by a Member of the Trustees. The committee is to use the 2017 NAPPS constitution to draw the time table, announce election dates, screen candidates and conduct elections. 

“Units, wards local government chapters, states and zones that have conducted their elections prior to this directives are not affected but must inform the NECOM in writing. They will also draw up the time table for the National elections.

“The Board also announces the setting up of a transitional committee with a member each from the six zones to be headed by the Chairman, Board of Trustees. Their job is to see to the day – to – day running of the association, pending the transition period of 4 months.

“Members of these two committees must have no political ambition in the next Administration which they are to midwife. The two committees have 120 days or March 22, 2024 within which to carry out their assignments.”

He added: “The Registered Board of Trustees NAPPS Nigeria is by this press conference mandate all members of NAPPS nationwide that all LGAs, states and zones are hereby instructed not to pay any money to any national account of NAPPS from today. You will be notified of the account you will use within few days either for exams, annual dues, debate, quiz etc. 

“All activities and business engaged-in by the Chief Yomi Otubela-led administration are hereby put on hold. No NAPPS member should engage in any activity not approved by the BOT henceforth.  NAPPS unified exams are hereby put on hold forthwith. You will be notified on the next line of action with respect to any exams that may be organized by NAPPS Nigeria.

“You will be informed of any activity or business of NAPPS you can engage in very soon. For the loan from FCMB, we direct that members should stay further transactions on this pending the time the BOT will be furnished with the Memorandum of Understanding signed on behalf of the association by the Chief Yomi Otubela led administration.  It is painful to inform you that we do not know anything about FCMB and the loan you are accessing from them. 

“As the Chairman BOT has informed you in his voice note of the early hours of 22nd November 2023, the members of the electoral committee have been mandated to conduct a credible election within 120 days. They are to publish the electoral guideline on or before 14 days from today. 

“In like manner, members of the transition committee include: Mijinyawa Said (Chairman) (Nasarawa, North-Central), Chief Derick Ejidakinro (Ondo, South West), M.M Adamu (Kano, North West), Hon Ernest Ike Ugwu (Enugu, South East), Victor Green (Rivers, South South), Alh. Mohammed Musa Wambilmi (Borno, North East) and Elder Charles Umekwe.

“In conclusion, we appreciate your patience and understanding of the current unpleasant and avoidable incidence deliberately created by some self-seeking members of the outgone administration. Very soon, the association will certainly come out of this trying period.”
