Kwara Internal Revenue Services (KWIRS) yesterday said it had generated revenue to the tune of N4.3 billion for the third quarter (Q3) of this year.
With this figure, the agency which began operation in January 2016, had so far raked in the total sum of N12.5 billion as against the total of amount of N7.2 billion achieved in 2015.
The increase in revenue generation, according the agency’s Chairman, Murtala Awodun, represents 114 per cent increase.
The agency’s chairman, Dr. Murtala Awodo, made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the activities of the agency for the second quarter covering the months of July, August, September and October, this year.
He said the growth in IGR were the “results of blockage of leakages which hae been a major hindrance to revenue generation in Kwara.”
Giving a breakdown of quarterly revenues generated for the last three quarters of 2016, Awodun said the sum of the N3.3 billion was realised in the first quarter, while N4.9 billion in second quarter and N4.3 billion in the third.
He, however, said some monies were still being expected which would shore up the total revenue generated for the quarter.
The KWIRS boss said the agency had made a monthly commitments of N500 million to the state Infrastructure Development Fund recently launched by the governor.
“This will ensure that money realised through taxes and revenue was ploughed into the development of Kwara and people will also see their money at work,” he said.
