House of Representatives has charged the police, as well as the Department of State Services (DSS), to urgently facilitate the release of former Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencium Mallam, and her husband, who were kidnapped on Monday.
The call was fallout of the unanimous adoption of a motion sponsored Hon. Sunday Marshall Katung. While calling on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the leadership of the DSS to intensify efforts at ensuring the safe quick release of the abducted couple, the House further advised the police and other security agencies to step up strict surveillance on the Bwari-Jere-Kafuna Road, along which the couple was abducted.
Katung, in the motion, explained that the former minister, her husband, Mr. Pius Mallam, were kidnapped at about 7pm after their attackers shot at their driver, adding that the kidnappers dispossessed the driver of his mobile phone and thereafter used the phone to contact a family member to demand for ransom.
“In recent times there has been a lot of kidnappings and killings on that route, and also the likelihood of the reoccurrence of such, and so the need for urgent measures against the hoodlums,” he said.
