Kwara: Increasing physically, mentally impaired children worries charity proprietor

Proprietor of a rehabilitation home in Ilorin, Kwara state, Rev. Samuel Ajayi, has said he is worried that major streets of Ilorin may soon be flooded with impaired children.

He warned that unless governments at all levels and public spirited persons assist charity homes in the face of the present economic realities, the city of Ilorin may be flooded with impaired children.

Addressing newsmen Wednesday, the owner of “To omo re” also called for state government’s tax waivers and total support in form of constant gestures.

The cleric commended the federal government’s Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for assisting the centre with several millions of naira to put it in shape.

He said the centre that started in 2006 with four pupils in 2008 in a rented apartment now needs land to build more spacious place to accommodate its over 80 population.

Ajayi listed the challenges confronting the school to include: land for expansion, experienced and qualified teachers, especially for autistic children, speech and physiotherapy. He lamented that the engaged lectures online from Lagos costs N10,000 per session.

He commended his staff, who at times watch the adult students when they defecated on their bodies, describing them as fellow workers in the God’s vineyard.
