Kuje gets livestock market

Kuje area council has opened a modern livestock market to attract or bring together dealers, breeders of domestic animals and butchers in an organised manner to generate revenue.

Declaring the Kuje Livestock Market open, the Chairman of the area council, Alhaji Abdullahi Danladi Galadima, noted that the market would help settle the age-long squabble between cattle dealers, farmers and Fulani herdsmen over livestock theft.

He cautioned herdsmen and farmers against disturbing the peace in the area, promising that adequate security would be provided at the market to ensure zero levels of livestock theft.

Galadima called for peaceful coexistence among dealers, breeders of domestic animals and butchers.

Earlier, the Chairman of Miyyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, FCT branch, Alhaji Yahaya Isah, appealed to other ethnic groups to participate actively in cattle breeding for domestic use.

He praised the Council for providing the cattle market and urged the chairman to fulfill his promise of providing adequate security within the facility to prevent loss of livestock.

On his part, the traditional ruler, the Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Tanko Jibrin, represented by one of his subjects, described the provision of the market as a sign that the chairman had “proper vision” to lead his community.

In his welcome address, the Divisional head, planning, research and strategy, Mr. David Sarki, who represented the Head of Department (HoD), Agriculture, Kuje area council, thanked the chairman for his “visionary leadership,” and appealed to the traders to embrace the market and make it success.

The modern cattle and sheep market is located at Gudaa-aba.
