Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi state has approved the release of N968 million for the payment of students’ scholarships.
At a news briefing in Birnin Kebbi, Thursday, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga, said the amount covered 20,908 students for the 2022/2023 academic session in 36 tertiary institutions in the country.
He stated that students who already paid registration fees on their own would be refunded.
The commissioner added that the ministry was streamlining foreign studies to avoid instances where students are sent abroad for courses available in our universities.
As at now, students of Kebbi state origin are studying in Egypt and India for disciplines in medical and nursing sciences offered in Nigeria.
