Katung mourns killing of Maulud celebrants, backs Uba Sani’s call for probe

The senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Marshall Katung, has described as tragic the killing in error of Tudun Biri villagers who were celebrating Maulud, Sunday night.  

The senator in a press statement on the unfortunate incident issued to Blueprint, Tuesday, said it is regrettable that this is happening at a time the people of the state are enjoying relative peace after the incessant onslaught of kidnappers and bandits terrorising the state.

“I received with sadness, the shocking news of the tragic incident in Tudun Biri Village of Afaka Ward, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, which resulted in the death of many of our citizens with several others injured.

“This incident is quite regrettable and a temporary setback to the renewed onslaught against terrorists and bandits in that area, Kaduna State, and the nation at large,” the lawmaker stated. 

While commiserating with the families and community of the victims, the senator representing Kaduna Central, and the government of Kaduna state over the tragic incident, Senator Katung commended “Governor Uba Sani for his prompt and courageous response by ordering the immediate investigation into the remote cause of the mishap, and also meeting with community and religious leaders to avert the possible breakdown of law and order in the state.”

The lawmaker enjoined the entire citizens of the state to “trust this process and remain calm and peaceful while we all mourn.”

He pledged to work with the senator from Kaduna North, Sen. Ibrahim Khalid, as well as with Sen. Lawal Adamu Usman and the state government to ensure that the victims are well catered for, while investigations are ongoing.

H e prayed God to “grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives, and healing to the injured and comfort to those they left behind.”
