Katsina health workers task residents on COVID-19 tests

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) Katsina state chapter has urged persons with symptoms of flu and fever to report themselves to COVID-19 isolation centres for their samples to be tested to determine their status.

The state chairman of the union, Comrade Mannir Suleiman, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Katsina in response to rising cases of coronavirus in the state.

He observed that community transmission has accounted for most of the cases in Katsina state while appealing to residents of communities in the state to report any person with symptoms of COVID-19 to the nearest isolation centre for testing.

Comrade Suleiman advised people of the state to obey government’s stay-at-home order and maintain personal and environmental hygiene, and use personal protective equipment.

He urged security agencies manning inter-state borders to be more vigilant and apprehend persons caught violating the border closure directive.

He also urged the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to set up a COVID-19 testing laboratory in Katsina state for prompt testing of suspected cases of the virus.
