The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has felicitated with the Nigeria media on the occasion of this year’s World Press Freedom Day, describing it as an indispensable tool for national development.
In a press statement in Kano, Monday, KEDCO management said the media had played immense role in galvanising development in the country through accurate and timely reportage of events, while keeping the general public informed.
The management added that the media has been instrumental in helping KEDCO to smoothen the relations between the company and its numerous customers across the Kano franchise areas.
“The media is very key as well as their freedom. The freedom of the media lies in the very essence of journalism and this is why as a company we are joining our partners in the media to felicitate with them on this great day.”
On his part, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KEDCO, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, commended the media for being “a true friend of the Nigerian people irrespective of geographical spread and other considerations.”
“The media has proven to be the best friend of the people by helping to ensure that we are all well informed on issues of governance and other matters of importance.
“As partners in progress, their representation of facts and events over the years has been done with all sense of responsiveness to their responsibilities, while proving to be the hope of Nigerians in terms of accurate reportage.”
He said the media should be respected in view of its commitment to ensuring a better society for us all through professionalism and service to our fatherland.
